Ireland’s Most Notorious Unsolved Murder – West Cork Podcast

Have you listened to the story of Ireland’s most notorious unsolved murder? In February 2018 Audible released a podcast examining in detail the small town murder in Cork.

West Cork is a 13-part podcast led by Investigative journalist Sam Bungey and documentarian Jennifer Forde. The series follows the pair as they examine the life and death of French producer Sophie Du Plantier and guide listeners through the details of her murder.

Days before Christmas in 1996 Sophie Du Plantier was brutally murdered at her holiday home near the town of Schull in West Cork, Ireland. Her badly beaten body was discovered by a neighbour at the edge of her property in the early hours of December 23rd.

The Audible podcast provides listeners with interviews from an intricate cast of characters and follows the tangled police investigation that lead to a provocative prime suspect.

On May 31st 2019, a year after the podcasts release, a french trial of the prime suspect, in absentia, has concluded with a guilty verdict.
